在行将跨入音乐人生第五个十年的时候，历经人生沧桑和事业辉煌的艾力普顿变得宠辱不惊，音乐已成为他身体的一个组成部分，他尽可随兴挥洒、敞露心扉。

2000年3月6日，在美国的克里佛兰，艾力普顿第三次荣登“摇滚名人堂”，成为历史第一位获此殊荣的摇滚明星。在1992年和1993年他曾分别跟随“The Yardbirs”和“Cream”这两支重量级的摇滚乐队先后入选。此前5个月，艾力普顿推出了这张凝取着20年辉煌成就的专辑《艾力普顿的编年史：1981-1999精选辑》。这是一张硕果累累的专辑。

艾力普顿（Eric Clapton）在音乐生涯的早期曾经有两个绰号：“God”（上帝）和“Slowhand”（慢手）。“God”的美誉得自艾力普顿神乎其技的吉他弹奏功夫，他的吉他造诣已臻惊天地、泣鬼神的化境，实非凡人的所能奢望；“Slow-hand”指的当是艾力普顿那从容内敛、游刃4有余却绝不矫情炫耀的表演风格。作为歌手的艾力普顿，其表现并不逊色于他的吉他表演。事实上，从70年代到90年代这三十年中，艾力普顿的歌曲从未在流行音乐排行榜上缺席过，他本人也因其杰出表现赢得过无数的奖项。吉他手艾力普顿和歌手艾力普顿这双重的身份交相辉映，缔造了一段四十年的精彩音乐人生。
